About your clinician and the practice

It can be really daunting reaching out for support. Finding a therapist can also be like finding a pair of shoes, some just aren’t the right fit. I wanted to share a little bit about myself and the practice, so you can get a sense of whether this feels like the right space for you.

My name is Candice Nicholls (They/She), though I often go by Can. To me, “Can” represents being a work in progress, always evolving, with room to grow. This philosophy guides my practice, which adapts alongside the unique lives and experiences of every individual who walks through the door.

I grew up in Wollongong and have always enjoyed arts and crafts, horror (games, TV shows, movies, you name it), walking, tattoos, sleep-ins and slow mornings, knick knacks, and hedgehogs. In my office, I have lots of little knick knacks, fidgets, sensory toys, and toy hedgehogs around. I never use the big light, but I do have lots of lamps and ambient lighting. I want my space to feel cosy and safe, not clinical.

I am neurodiverse and queer, and I am passionate about fostering an environment that honours autonomy, fairness, and justice, where people feel heard and empowered to make choices that align with their authentic selves. I want to find what works for you, more than what we think we are “supposed to do”. While we do explore your past experiences and how they impact you, I also bring awareness to historical and current world politics, events, societal structures, and expectations into my work. I believe these are integral influences on our lives and how we navigate and understand the world around us.

I completed my studies at University of Wollongong, and am a General Psychologist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Psychology Board of Australia, and I am an Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) accredited mental health practitioner. I have a special interest in working with clients who experience eating disorders and body image disturbance, neurodiversity, and long-term challenges related to complex trauma. I have six years of experience working with clients facing diverse challenges and welcome individuals of all gender identities, sexual orientations, neurotypes, religious backgrounds, and ethnicities.

I value building strong, authentic working relationships and deeply honour your autonomy and choice throughout the therapeutic process. You are the expert of your life, and I hope we can work together as equal members of a team to navigate whatever you may be facing.

C Nicholls Psychology is a solo practice, so if you reach out, you'll be talking with me. Built on values of autonomy, fairness, and justice, I aim to help your experiences feel honoured and your voice heard. Whether you are navigating mental health challenges, life transitions, or identity exploration, I hope you can find empathy, curiosity, and care here. Therapy at C Nicholls Psychology is a collaborative process that creates space for all parts of yourself to be seen and supported as you move toward greater self-understanding.

At C Nicholls Psychology, I want therapy to be a space where you feel empowered to heal at your own pace. Grounded in compassion and guided by evidence-based therapies such as Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, my approach is holistic, client-centred, and focused on your individual needs. I am committed to supporting you in exploring, understanding, and navigating life's challenges.
